En 10 ans, l’Institut Michel Serres, avec la participation directe de Michel Serres et en étroite collaboration avec le programme juridique LASCAUX / CELT, s’est investi dans une analyse critique des concepts et visions en circulation, des méthodes de travail, et de l’espace sémantique des multiples initiatives alternatives. Il porte une voix originale :

Le Contrat Naturel de Michel Serres nous invite à répondre à la crise environnementale non pas avec des technologies toujours plus distantes de la nature et des citoyens, mais plutôt avec des cadres légaux qui donnent une place au vivant, afin d’ajuster besoins et ressources.

La santé commune est un vecteur de transformation sociétale, car le concept même de santé permet de mobiliser des indicateurs pluriels et pertinents,avec un lien plus profond avec les citoyens (science citoyenne) mettant en valeur la robustesse socio-écologique des solutions en gestation un peu partout dans le monde.

Wishes 2023 - the Michel Serres Institute, 2012-2022

Here we highlight the work of an international and interdisciplinary group of scholars at the Michel Serres Institute created 10 years ago in Lyons, France. The Institute is a think-tank for conceptual developments, a networking facilitator and mediator, with support missions for real life projects deployment.

The primary goals of the Institute :
To collectively build and preserve the balance of society and nature through care and health-mindedness. That thinking can spark immediate action because it puts forward what we depend on most, what is most likely to be understood, accepted, and shared locally and globally, collectively and individually.
To create a peaceful relationship with the Earth by learning and understanding how best to use natural resources rather than exploit them. In other words, we will enjoy human health while benefiting the planet through responsible stewardship of the ecological commons and resource justice.
We will put them at the service of collective needs rather than individual profits. We will ensure they are not spoiled by taking due account of the life of future generations and the lengthy processes found in natural systems. This is what we call social and ecological robustness .

Such a transformation would imply profound changes in institutions, education, practices, technologies, policies, lifestyles and ways of thinking. So long as these conditions have not been enacted collectively, it will be difficult to resolve other grand challenges : poverty, equity and democracy, food security and sovereignty, global pollution and biodiversity erosion, climate change.
